Apply to Be a TA Trainer
Deadline: February 10
Do you enjoy teaching? Would you like to help new TAs get ready to go into the classroom or the lab? The Center for Teaching & Learning is recruiting doctoral students from SAS, SEAS, Nursing, Wharton, Design, Annenberg, and Neuroscience to work as TA Trainers in August 2023. Successful applicants will work with other trainers and CTL staff to design and develop a workshop and also mentor new TAs as they deliver short teaching demonstrations and discuss a variety of scenarios. 
Potential trainers must be available 8:30am-4pm, August 21-25, 2023. Several days of preparation will be scheduled in May or June based on the availability of those hired. Compensation is $1700. Apply here. Questions? Please contact Ian Petrie (petrie@upenn.edu)

Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships 
Deadline: February 10
Supports academic year and summer training in modern foreign languages and related area or international studies or with the international aspects of professional or fields of study. Open to US citizens and permanent residents. 

Provost’s Graduate Academic Engagement Fellowship at the Netter Center 
Deadline: February 13
Internal fellowship opportunity for all PhD students across the University of Pennsylvania. Fellows are outstanding students whose scholarship significantly involves activities related to Academically Based Community Service (ABCS), including community-engaged scholarship, participatory action research, local problem-solving learning, service-learning, and learning by teaching in public schools. The second year of the fellowship includes full funding for the academic year (inclusive of stipend, tuition, general fee, clinical fee, and health insurance) and one summer stipend. The fellowship also includes $5,000 of research funding and additional support to attend and present at conferences. Perry World House Workshop Rapporteur
Deadline: February 17
Paid graduate student position to assist with research, analysis, and reporting in connection with Perry World House's upcoming closed-door workshop on nuclear policy issues. colloquium focused on "Living with Extreme Heat: Planning for People and Planet." All work will be conducted between late earl March and late April. Rapporteur will receive $1250. See full details and application instructions

Trustees’ Council of Penn Women (TCPW) Grants
Deadline: February 20
Grants of $1,000-3,000 for individuals or organizations promoting women's issues, the quality of graduate or undergraduate life for women, the advancement of women, and/or the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of women. Awards will be announced in the Spring of 2023 and funds will be distributed in July/August 2023 for projects in the 2023-2024 academic year. Learn more and apply. 

Research Student Travel Grants
Deadline: February 28
Grants to assist students in research-degree programs (PhD, MA, MS) with costs associated with qualified travel expenses for research students presenting their work at academic conferences, workshops, and meetings. Research Travel Grants are to serve as a terminal funding source to support research students traveling to their conferences. Learn more and apply

APS Phillips Fund for Native American Research
Deadline: March 1

Grants of up to $3500 from the American Philosophical Society (APS) to support scholars conducting research in Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, and the history of studies of Native Americans.. It is intended to cover research-related costs such as travel, audio and video recordings, and consultants' fees. Grants offer up to one year of support.

 

Penn 3MT 2023 Competition 
Deadline extended: March 1 
Explaining your research quickly and clearly is a great skill to have during networking, interviews, and unexpected social situations. Penn's 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition will give you that experience and more! Win prizes of up to $1,000 and an opportunity to represent Penn in regional and inter-Ivy 3MT competitions! Melanie Foundation Graduate Scholarship in Mental Health
Deadline: March 5
Scholarships support graduate students who are pursuing a doctoral or master’s degree in the mental health field. The scholarship offers support for one year.

President Gutman Leadership Award (Travel Grants) 
Deadline: March 13
Grants of up to $2000 to support students presenting their research at either a conference (either within the United States or internationally) that would normally be out of their budget even with an individual travel grant through existing University travel grant programs. Learn more and apply

GAPSA Professional Student Individual Grants
Deadline: March 15
Grants to assist with costs related to qualified travel expenses for professional students attending and/or presenting at academic conferences, meetings, case competitions, externships, and internships. Students pursuing professional development outside of the University and traveling for residency interviews may also apply. Learn more and apply


YH Park Fellowship in Korean Studies 
Deadline: March 26
Provides PhD tuition, 12-month stipend, and health insurance to graduate students in the humanities, social sciences, international management, international studies, or fine arts whose primary research area is Korea and whose dissertation will be on Korea. Fellows are expected to continue their scholarly activities outside of Korea after graduation and must have sufficient proficiency to use Korean-language sources in conducting research and writing dissertations. Open to current master's or PhD students. Open to US citizens and non-US citizens. Learn more.

Schmidt Science Fellows 
Nomination Deadline: April 30 
Penn is one of a select number of institutions invited to nominate graduating PhD students for the Schmidt Science Fellows in partnership with the Rhodes Trust. Schmidt Fellows receive a stipend of $100,000 a year for up to 2 years, and are supported to pursue a postdoctoral placement at a world-leading laboratory anywhere in the world in a disciplinary pivot from their PhD. During their Fellowship Year(s), they also participate in a varied and challenging Global Meeting Series that introduces new research ideas, techniques, and questions, in addition to a tailored training program.  Students must complete a PhD in the sciences before the deadline and should be nominated by a faculty member. Call for nominations has been shared with Penn graduate deans and faculty in eligible schools. Open to students in Nursing, SAS, SEAS, and PSOM-BGS. Internal school processes for selection may vary. Campaign for Community Grants

The Campaign for Community aims to strengthen our Penn community by finding ways to discuss and understand key issues that may appear to be difficult or intractable. Dirksen Congressional Center Congressional Research Grants 
Deadline: rolling 
Eligibility: Students with a serious interest in studying Congress; a significant portion of the funds is awarded for PhD dissertation research

Data Incubator Data Science Fellowship 
Deadlines: Multiple sessions each year, deadlines vary.
An advanced 8-week fellowship for PhDs looking to enter industry. Free for admitted Fellows. Participate either in person in New York City, Washington, DC, the San Francisco Bay Area, or online.
