Van is completing her PhD in Genomics & Computational Biology in the Perelman School of Medicine and dual master's degree in Statistics from Wharton. Her current research interests include graph databases & algorithms, computational immunology, and healthcare informatics. She is excited to become the first woman in her diaspora village to earn her PhD. Originally from a rural village in Vietnam, Van grew up in Florida and graduated from the University of Florida with her BA in Anthropology. During her undergrad, post-bac, and MS training, she conducted research extensively including as a NIH-PREP scholar at Virginia Tech, IES Foundation Fellow at Harvard University, and dual-MS/CRTA at Johns Hopkins and the National Cancer Institute. Van is also a talented artist whose crowdsourced sculptures have helped advance interdisciplinary conversation and public engagement with STEM. She loves cooking, climbing, ultimate frisbee, being outdoors and once biked solo across the country at age 19.
