Resource Research Poster Design Tips

By Graduate Student Center

Having trouble designing your research poster? Here are a few helpful design tips from Penn Libraries!

Overall, a poster should communicate a snapshot of your work. This includes the purpose of your research, the results, the summary, and the conclusion of your findings. Remember that the overall goal of a poster is to have attendees stop at your poster, engage with your poster, and remember you.

Using space effectively helps to communicate your ideas best. Remember to make more important concepts bigger, keep paragraphs short and concise, and use bulleted lists. You can also use handouts, QR codes, and small text for sources to save space on your research poster. Also, while designing a poster, you should also ensure that the poster uses plenty of white space and that the fonts used are simple and easy to read. For ease of readability, don't use a pattern or gradient for the background; and make sure that the colors used in the poster do not clash.
