Emily O'Rourke

Emily O’Rourke is originally from El Paso, Texas. She graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Biology in 2021. As an undergraduate, she worked under the mentorship of Dr. Rebecca Lamason where she investigated host-pathogen interactions of the bacterium Rickettsia parkeri. She is now pursuing her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology at the Perelman School of Medicine. Emily is interested in uncovering the molecular basis of infectious diseases. Additionally, Emily is interested in public health and is a student in the Public Health Certificate Program. Her goals are to promote diversity in STEM, work on community education about disease spread, and eventually lead her own research lab.
